Museum of Historical Weapons

Exhibit in the second fortress (Cesta)

The Museum of Historical Weapons is located in Borgo Maggiore in the second fortress, also known as Cesta or Fratta, and is home to more than 1,550 state-owned weapons, armours and devices from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 19th century inside glass cases with information in Italian and English. The first hall is mostly home to Italian cut and thrust weapons from 1450 to 1600 in chronological order, including partisans, scythe spears, halberds, and Corsican spears. Across the corridor, where an exhibition about the evolution of armour has found its place, the large hall with melee weapons, firearms, and various devices from the early 16th to the late 18th century can be reached. The upper floor hosts items from Napoleonic times up to the first magazine systems with metal rounds from the second half of the 19th century. Among the highlights is a Colt Navy Revolver from 1851, which was supposedly given to Giuseppe Garibaldi by Samuel Colt.
