Museum and family home of the nobility of Verona
You can get a good impression of the palace life of Veronese noblemen at the Palazzo Miniscalchi-Erizzo. The complex, which is still owned by the family foundation, includes a museum and a small part of the palace is also open to the public. When walking through the palace you will get a good impression of the pomp and splendour which the resident noble Miniscalchi-Erizzo family enjoyed. The family’s ancestors came from Venice and Bergamo. The Miniscalchi were rich merchants in Bergamo and Francesco Erizzo was the Doge of Venice when the two families allied and settled in Verona.
The building itself has elements from different eras. The façade of the portal along with the superb double-arched windows is late Gothic in style; the rear building is Classical in style. The Museo Miniscalchi-Erizzo features a temporary and a permanent exhibition on two floors. The permanent exhibition contains some impressive bronze statues and pieces from Venetian, Etruscan and Roman times. A small amber altar with a German inscription in the little chapel is one of the highlights of the collection.
