Scene of bloody gladiator fights
Directly to the left at the entrance to the archaeological park is the Roman amphitheatre. The theatre was built in the late phase of the Roman period in the 3rd Century A.D. and had a huge stage. Presumably, the stage of the neighbouring Greek theatre had become too small for the elaborate gladiatorial combat.
Both parts of the stands and the stage substructure are still preserved. Good to see are the entrances for gladiators and animals under the front seats. In the summer months rock concerts take place here every now and then.
Entrance via the Archaeological park: € 8,-
