Museo Correr

Impressive collection in the Procuratie Nuovo

The Museo Correr houses the great art and urban history collection of Teodoro Correr, who donated his exhibits to the city of Venice. His collection documents the history of Venice in numerous city views, documents, costumes, coins, weapons and certificates. The picture gallery on the second floor shows works by famous Venetian artists. These include the Venetian-Byzantine panel paintings by Paolo and Lorenzo Veneziano, the “Madonna and Child” by Jacobello del Fiore and the “Portrait of a Young Man” by Baldassare Estense. The highlight of this area is the most famous painting of the Museo Correr: The “Two Venetian women” by Vittorio Carpaccio from 1510.

The third area of the Museo Correr is the Risorgimento museum. It shows the political development of Venice from the end of the Venetian Republic to its incorporation into the Italian Kingdom.
