Medieval Borgo in the middle of Rimini
One is greeted by an almost unexpected highlight in the medieval fishermen district Borgo San Giuliano north of Ponte di Tiberio. Numerous mural paintings can be found on the colourful houses in the small, medieval alleys depicting scenes of Fellini’s most famous movies as well as portraits of the artist and his wife, actress Giuletta Masina. A little stroll through the historic district certainly pays off.
The “Borg” society, as residents call the historic fishermen district, mounted colourful ceramic signs next to the doors of the individual houses in 2009. They show the name of the last fishermen that have been living here since mid-20th century. Today, no one officially makes a living from fishing or shipping in this district.
