Caffè Pedrocchi

Coffee break in an historic ambiance

The Caffè Pedrocchi offers its visitors a unique ambience. The neo-classical facade and the magnificently decorated interiors look more like a palace than a coffeehouse. The Caffè Pedrocchi was built in 1839 by Antonio Pedrocchi, who wanted to continue the coffee house of his father in a new style. Pedrocchi consciously built his cafe near the university and it became early a meeting place of intellectuals, academics and students in Padua. The revolutionary ideas that were born here, especially during the Italian Risorgimento, led to an attack by Austrian troops on the café in 1848 to break the resistance – the Austrian bullets are still visible today in the white drawing room. You should definitely stop for a short coffee break at this famous place.

The Museo del Risorgimento e Contemporanea dell'Età in the Piano Nobile displays the history of Padua from the beginning of the Risorgimento to the Second World War. The magnificently ornate interiors of the Caffè Pedrocchi are also very nice to look at.
