Walls and canals in Treviso

Intact medieval centre

The intact city wall from the 16th century is particularly charming, and the canals that surround Treviso lend the town a particularly atmospheric touch. From the north, the river Botteniga flows to Treviso, where it divides into three canals – Canale Cagnan, Canale Buranelli and Canale Roggia – and passes the city centre. Outside the old town, part of the water is also redirected around the city walls. You can walk on some of the city walls, which are planted with chestnut trees. Picturesque old town houses, arcades and landscaped rest areas make for a very cosy and charming ambiance. Particularly in the northern part of the old town of Treviso there are some beautiful spots such as the Riviera Cagnan with its weeping willows, old water wheels and comfortable benches, which are certainly worth a visit.

If you go a few steps further to the right at the end of the Via Callmaggiore, you will reach the Via Roggia. With its old houses, archways and winding alleyways it is one of the loveliest and most charming corners of Treviso.
