Museum of national unity and resistance
The Museo di Risorgimento is in close proximity to the Palazzo dei Diamanti. It was dedicated to Ferrara’s patriots Giacomo Succi and Domenico Malagutti in 1903 documenting the city’s recent history.
Part of the museum is dedicated to the era of the Risorgimento, the pursuit of national unity. The oldest pieces document the French occupation from the end of the 18th century and the Austrian occupation in 1799 with original pieces from the then Austrian fortification. There are also various flags of the former Cispadane Republic. Different print works, weapons and uniforms date back to the era of the Risorgimento. Other memorabilia are evocative of the battalion Bersaglieri del Po formed in 1848 that fought in the battles of Monte Berico and Cormuda.
Other sections document the further course of history. Among the exhibits are guns, sabres and uniforms predating the First World War. Several pieces recall both World Wars, political persecution and the resistance with various letters and other memorabilia from private hands.
